ABOUT THE COMMUNITY

Chelsea Retirement Community, part of the United Methodist Retirement Communities family, has been dedicated to innovation in serving Seniors for more than 100 years. The 58-acre campus in the historic City of Chelsea, and just minutes from Ann Arbor, offers residents a wealth of opportunities to complement any lifestyle, no matter how active or laid-back you might choose to be.

If you enjoy fitness and aquatics, you’ll love the new 14,000 sq. ft. McMullen Wellness & Aquatic Center which has an indoor heated lap pool, hot tub and lazy river for resistance training. In addition an indoor track for walkers and joggers and a well-equipped fitness center is on the second level.

Chelsea Healthy!

Chelsea Retirement Community, in partnership with the National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS), brings you premier health and fitness programming. It creates a wellness program that is solely based on keeping seniors fit and active. Strength, balance and all factors of physical, spiritual and mental health are taken into account, individually for each resident.

Fitness

Large weight training area with machines and free weights designed for seniors. Specialty chairs built for seated and standing workouts, with and without resistance bands, depending on one's needs. Indoor, cork floor walking track for increased movement. Weight based strength classes available.

Aquatics

Large swimming pool with wheelchair accessible ramp along with a resistance river where residents can either walk with the current or away from it depending on their physical capabilities. A hot tub and a sauna are also available for relaxation and curing sore muscles. Water aerobics, balance classes and yoga are available as well.

Golf

Putting green in Assisted Living used as an area for fellowship and exercise.

Other Outdoor Options

Multiple cutting gardens, walking and biking paths, raised gardening area with chicken coop, and multiple beautiful gardens to relax and have social gatherings.

Other Indoor Options

Multiple card and gaming rooms, indoor shuffle board, large movie theatre, arts and crafts center programmed by an Artful Aging grant and our beauty/barber shop.

Educational

Library with periodicals and computers. Continuing education based upon social equality, wellness, environmental conservation.

Cultural

Theater (no stage), Chapel, resident choir, WAVE (transport to cultural facility), museum, gardens and theater’s. Artful Aging art classes, eight week classes led by an art teacher.

Spiritual

Chapel with multiple services and used by multiple denominations. Three full time Chaplains and multiple opportunities for group and individual worship and fellowship.

Culinary

Multiple dining venues including a the Fireside Grille and Bistro, the Mackinaw Dining Room, and private dining rooms. Chef prepared meals throughout all levels of living and care on the campus. Bill’s Café with free, unlimited, ice cream and coffee in Assisted Living.

Vocational

Volunteerism is a very large portion of life at Chelsea Retirement Community. The Volunteer Coordinator works with residents and the local community to fit wants and needs for volunteer opportunities.

Book club, creative writing club, euchre club, knitting club, Men’s Group. Resident Committees: Resident Council, Executive, Building and Grounds, Food, Programming, Social, Political, Environmental Issues (SPEIC), Diversity, Library, Financial, Nominating.
